Should you be using Google Adwords to promote your website?

I personally run a consistent Google Adwords (sometimes referred to as PPC or Pay per click) campaign for The Business Card Shoppe. The website has been up for 5 years and we have a great showing on Google’s organic searches. So why would I want to use Google’s Adwords? The short answer is, Marketshare. When someone Google’s “website design in Salinas”, I want to see my website listed as many times as possible. Last check, I had one in the PPC section and 3 in the organic section. For me, 3 just wasn’t enough.

I strongly suggest using Google Adwords if your website is brand new. Why? Because most likely you have no page rank for any keywords. No one will know your website exists for at least 6-8 weeks. And that’s if your website is well optimized. Use Google Adwords to offset this downtime. When someone clicks on your PPC ad, they don’t know if you’ve been in business for 5 minutes or 5 years. This levels the playing field for you against those businesses that have been around for quite a while.

If you’re worried about not having a budget for a Google Adwords campaign, start thinking about cutting the budget for many of the struggling “offline” marketing methods you are using. Phone book, radio & tv are just some of the dying advertising mediums. People are using search engines in place of phone books. They are using iPods in place of radio and they are using their DVR’s to fast forward through commercials. These “outbound” methods of marketing are becoming less and less efficient every single day. So why not advertise where people are looking for you. Google PPC is one of the most effective forms of advertising on the planet right now. How much more targeted can your advertising be than to appear when someone is searching for your product or service?

It’s simple to setup a PPC campaign on your own – You can start by going to http://adwords.google.com and signing up. If after signing up, the setup seems overwhelming and you aren’t quite sure what to do, we can help. We can help you setup your Google PC campaign and show you what to watch for. We even offer $100 in free pay per clicks to help offset your setup cost. Visit our Google Pay Per Click Packages page.
